Reducing Waste - A Beginner's Guide

If you are looking to reduce waste this year but don't know where to start, look no further !! We have been there and know how it feels.

We are still learning but in our experience, it is best to just jump right in and get started somewhere, make mistakes along the way, learn from it and do better than to wait for the right moment.

Without further ado, here are 5 things you could do to reduce waste -

1. Shop local, support small businesses, visit farmer's market and check out the local zero-waste store.

2. Always carry a reusable shopping bag(fabric bags are better). This alone greatly reduces plastic usage.

3. Replace paper towels with Swedish dishcloth or cotton rags.

4. Seek out products made with natural materials that can be composted at home. Educate yourself to be a better consumer. Rule of thumb - always choose long lasting reusable products over cheap, disposable ones.

5. Last but not least - start composting. This activity alone will teach you to stay away from chemicals, recognize better made products and how to be an educated consumer. If you are new to composting, check out our blog post on composting. People find composting very daunting but we think it is the best way to learn. Ask us if you have any questions on how to compost. We are not experts by any means but we will be happy to share our learnings.

We all have a collective responsibility to reduce waste and lead a more sustainable life, and we hope this will inspire you to get started on this journey. If you have already reduced your waste and can share a few tips with us, drop us a line. We would love to learn from you.
